As I mentioned in my previous post, I was very much looking forward to doing more radio…stuff. The AM session was all about editing audio and using Adobe Audition, I talked before about how before these last couple of weeks, I haven’t used any sort of editing software at all and so as excited as I am to learn these technical skills, its all still very intimidating to me but Andy, the technician doing the introduction for us, was very clear and helpful when bringing us through what we were learning.
We started with what were the absolute basics of the programme;
- Normalizing
- Single Band Compression
- EQ Levels
- Waveform and Multitrack viewing
- Noise Print and Reduction (getting rid of annoying background noise)
After learning them and practising on Jamiroquai’s Canned Heat (song to the greatest movie dance sequence of all time) we then went off in our groups and planned what we were going to do later on in the studios and what sort of show we were going to be doing, whether it be a breakfast talk show or a music station like Kerrang and Capital. Mr Radio himself Sam Coley paid us a quick visit to talk to us about our ideas and what we could possibly do to improve them or just give us ideas about what we can talk about during the ‘show’
I wont go into too much detail about what we did in the studios as I’m actually going to insert onto my blog somewhere as an audio piece when I’m able to sit down and edit it out properly and make it somewhat presentable, what I will talk about though is how I felt about being in the studios again.
I absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed being behind the decks and screens again, using Myriad and Adobe Audition together as well brought a new challenge that I enjoyed tackling. Doing this second session in the radio studios has further cemented the feeling I had after the first session, which is that radio is definitely something that I was to persue this year.
